Where are you located?
We are in beautiful, Historic Downtown Stillwater, birthplace of
Minnesota. The entrance is located on the river side of Main Street,
in the block between Chestnut and Myrtle Streets. Look for us under
the green and white striped awning. While you are downtown take time
to enjoy the St. Croix River and lovely Lowell Park, just steps from
our front door.
Can I bring in jewelry to be redesigned?
Definitely! Part of the fun of family jewelry is getting it reworked
to go with your personality and life style. Use grandmas stone and the
family gold and make something uniquely yours. You still have the
stones, the gold and the memories to go with the smiles.
Do you do repairs?
We offer a full range of services to take care of our customers
including jewelry repair, watch repair, pearl stringing, and engraving.
While most jewelry repairs are completed in a few days, some complex
repairs take more time. When you bring in your items, we will be clear
about how long your repairs will take and what the costs will be. 90% of our repairs are done right in the store!
Why do you measure jewelry in millimeters?
The millimeter is our standard unit of measurement for jewelry
dimensions. By using millimeters, we can provide you with the most
accurate height, width and length for your jewelry. To give you a
better idea of your jewelry's dimensions:
25MM is approximately 1 inch
3MM is approximately 1/8 inch
6MM is approximately 1/4 inch
13MM is approximately 1/2 inch
19MM is approximately 3/4 inch
25MM is approximately 1 inch
50MM is approximately 2 inches
75MM is approximately 3 inches
Caring for your Jewelry
Fine
Jewelry is a precious possession designed to last a lifetime. However,
proper care is required to assure the lasting qualities of your
jewelry. Use the following information as a guide for cleaning and
protecting your jewelry.
General Care Tips
- Visit your jeweler at least 2 to 3 times a year for a professional cleaning and inspection. That's me!
- Store your jewelry in a clean dry place. I know - it seems like a DUH, but you should see how dusty some of my pieces get when I just drop them on the dresser and don't wear them for a while!
- Keep your jewelry in a fabric-lined jewelry case or in a box with compartments and dividers.
- Always thoroughly rinse and dry your jewelry after cleaning at home and before storage. Again - it sounds like a DUH. But if you clean your jewelry at home with a little jar of jewelry cleaner and don't rinse it well the chemical can dry under the stones and cause you irritation next time you wear it!
- Remove all jewelry before showering, swimming and doing
housework because chlorine and bleach can permanently damage or
discolor gold jewelry. CHLORINE AND BLEACH ARE BAD BUT MERCURY IS WORSE!
Gold, Platinum and Diamond Jewelry
- Clean your jewelry regularly using a commercial jewelry cleaner
or mild detergent. Dip the jewelry into the solution and use a soft
brush to dislodge dirt form under the setting and in the cracks.
- Do not wear your jewelry while doing rough work, especially rings.
You can easily break or bend a prong and even though diamonds are one
of natures hardest materials, a sudden blow can chip it.
- Avoid touching your diamonds: body oils create a film on a diamond’s surface that diminishes its brilliance. Diamonds are little grease magnets!
Colored Gemstones
- Some colored gemstones require specific care and cleaning: check with your jeweler for specific instructions.
- Apply Cosmetics, lotions or sprays before putting on colored
gemstone jewelry to avoid damaging or dulling the brilliance of your
gemstones.
- After wearing wipe with a clean, soft, slightly damp cloth to
enhance the luster of the gemstones and remove any chemicals or body
oils.
- Do not expose gemstones to saltwater, pool water or harsh
chemicals, such as chlorine. These liquids may slowly erode the finish
and polish of gemstones and damage their mountings.
- If you have an active lifestyle, take extra precaution with some
types of gemstone jewelry. Ask your jeweler which gemstones are more
prone to breakage.
